Pagoda Sleeve Zouave Jacket
C.1860-1863. A white diamond pattern cotton zouave jacket with large medallions of handmade Broderie Anglaise around the front, back
and large pagoda sleeves.
It's cut in a square shape rather than a shorter
rounder shape as later zouaves would be. The pagoda sleeves are wide to accomodate
the large puffy bishop sleeves of the early 1860's. The collar comes right up to the base of the neck and it fastens at the throat with a hook and thread loop.
It was for a larger sized and tall woman and is about a size US size 14-16 (UK 16- 8) and would have been worn by someone of about 5'8"- 5'9".
