C.1865. A darling little white cotton long styled zouave jacket. These would have been worn over a Garibaldi blouse by both girl and boys, and were popular among the adults too.
decorates the high neckline, sleeve cuffs and hem of the jacket. The sleeve cuffs have drawstrings in them so you can change sleeve style from modified pagoda sleeves to a puffed sleeve. There is the quintessential mid 19th century piping at the dropped seams and around the hem of the jacket.
The zouave fastens at the front with brass hooks and hand worked loops It can either be worn fastened only at the neck (as shown) or have all 4 hook 'n loops fasten as a proper jacket.
It's in wondeful condition with only a light grey mark at waist area on the front right side and another on the back
of the left sholder blade.
Completely hand stitched. the body of the jacket is cut in a flared, shaped to accomodate a crinoline.
Would fit about a 5 year old. Measurements: shoulders 15", Chest 31", waist is free. Length 20".
