Dates from 1868. Marked Duchess '68, which fits in with costume history at a time when the crinoline evolved into the bustle, hence the half
crinoline or "crinolette" (this term briefly surfaced in the 1880's when the bustle came back into fashion).
This crinolette is made up of 26 graduated
half hoops sewn into a half cotton "skirt" front. You could either step right into the skirt for a lesser bustle or rest the skirt on your bum for a really big bustle! The half hoops are connected inside the skirt to ties
which you can tighten or loosen depending on the size desired. The waistband had been lengthened from 26" to 34".
