Toddler Girl Dress

Toddler Girl Dress
C. 1877- 1879. A homemade little toddler age girl dress. Made out of Turkey red color calico with printed designs of flowers on it. Although it is a homemade made by a working class mommy for everyday wear, it is cut in a fashionable style. It's cut in the princess style which is quite fitted at the front and back, with no separate bodice or skirt and this would have been easy to put on a child and comfortable for her to wear. The seams are piped with white fabric and there is a pocket at the right side. Pockets on princess style dresses were extremely fashionable during the late 1870's. It would have been worn with long pantaloons to cover the legs and no bustle or a very small flat one. It would have been worn by a 1 to 1/2 year old, measures 22" chest, 24" waist and is 19 1/2" long. (Formerly from the collection of Leila Hidic)
