C.1885-1887. The wearing of the crinoline did not stop with the 1880's, and became a necessity in the mid 1880's when the fasion for heavy upholstery weight fabrics for dresses demanded something more substantial than a petticoat to support it. The round cage crinoline was revived and, although now a fraction of its former size, it still did it's job off holding out heavy weight skirts.
1880's crinolines were always worn with bustles if they did not have a bustle built in already like previous examples. The one is very narrow and consists of hoops only at the bottom, which would have meant a separate bustle was worn with it. Measures 56" around the bottom hoop.
