C.1895. This short cape would have been worn during the autumn/early spring as part of a walking outfit or for going out someplace special.
It's made out of a crisp velvet, with a floral pattern
. The edges of the cape are trimmed with a band of glossy jet seed beads. There is only one fastening, a heavy duty hook 'n eye at the throat. It's quite
flared, measuring 83" all around the hem. The shoulders are pleated and full so it can be worn with a large sleeved Leg 'o mutton bodice. Measures 18" long.
