C.1895. This has to be one of my favorite items in my collection and one of the things I'm thankful I fit into! During the 1890's colored and fancy underwear became the rage and this petticoat must have been flashed around somewhat :)
It's made out of thick pink tartan silk moire taffeta (the watered lines of moire aren't really visible in the photo as the tartan covers it up a bit). It's so lovely and crisp and does a wonderful job of keeping the skirt held out too. The waist is adjustable from 32" to 34" and has a drawstring at the back to accomadate a small padded bustle. Fastens at the left side with a hook 'n eye and mother of pearl buttons. 38" long. Gorgeous!
