C.1905-1906. Grey wool bolero which was probably part of a visiting or walking costume. Features very full Leg 'O Mutton sleeves which
were briefly revived in 1905-1906.
Short jackets like these were extremely
fashionable during this time, and this one could either be left open as pictured or fastened all the way up like a quasi bodice. They were worn over shirtwaists with the "pouched" part of the shirtwaist hanging out from underneath. It was a style for the young generation and was not worn by many older woman past their 20's, this one measures 32" in the bust. Although the rest of the outfit does not survive, I have matched it up with clothing and accesories from the same era to show what it would look like as a visiting or walking
(note the calling case card purse).
