C.1900-1901. A pair of elastic sided "Prunella" walking boots.
This charming style of boot had always been popular since the 1860's but then was revived at the turn of the century as a comfortable
alternative to the tedious lace up or button up boot. These elastic sided boots
were easy and quick to put on and did not constrict the leg as the lace up/button boots sometimes did and were often favored as walking boots.
This pair still has it's original pull tab at the ankles and are lined in white cotton. They measure 9 3/4" long and are a wide width measuring 3 1/4" wide. They would fit a ladies
UK 4 1/2-5 (US 6 1/2-7) medium/wide. Here is a period advert
from the lady's shoe section of the 1901 Eaton's Catalogue advertising a similar Prunella shoe.
