Ladies Black Stocking Suspender Belt
C.1900-1908. A black sateen suspender belt which would have been worn over the corset to hold up stockings. These became popular at the turn of the century when most corsets did not have stocking suspenders sewn on them.
The waist band is made out of black cotton twill tape, and the stocking suspenders are made out of old elastic with ornate stocking clips. As a gimmick, advertisers often touted this style of stocking suspender as being able to give the 'new straight fronted look' as it was believed that these would be able to hold in the belly!
