These items were indispensable in a ladies wardrobe for fixing her long hair into the latest upswept styles. I am fortunate to have examples in their original wrappers and in different sizes as well. The two packs on
the left side date from C.1901. The packet at the upper left hand side is made by Kirby Beard & Co. who had won medals for their hairpins in 1883. Pins are about 2" long. The lower left pack is made by London Hairpins (again C.1901) and sold by Walter Windspear, Hairdresser and Perfumer, York. These ones measure about 3" long.
The little box on the upper right side dates form about 1907- 1909 and are made by Cross Fox Invisible Hairpins. They measure about 3" long. The long single hairpin on the lower right side, dates from about 1909- 1910 and measures about 4 1/2" long.
